The Blue Communities Africa was officially launched earlier this week at the Kofi Annan ICT Center in Accra, Ghana.
Attended by members of the Blue Communities Assessment and Declaration committee, Africa Water Justice Network, Representatives of the Ghanaian government, the Community Water and Sanitation Agency, a Queen Mother from Dodowa in Greater Accra, Faith-based organizations and members of the media, with numerous partners and supporters from around the world joining online.
This initiative marks a significant milestone in our collective efforts to ensure water justice and sustainable water management across the continent. As Coordinator of the Africa Water Justice Network, Leonard Shang-Quartey, conveyed in his remarks to the event
As we launch the Blue Communities Africa Project, we are not just starting a new initiative; we are igniting a movement that has the potential to reshape how water is managed and protected across our continent. We invite you all to join us in this endeavour, to stand with us for water justice, and to work together to ensure that every community in Africa has the right to clean, accessible, and sustainably managed water.
A special thank you goes to the Deputy Minister of Finance of Ghana, Dr. Alex Ampaabeng, whose availability to launch the initiative and expression of support for the principles of Blue Communities was deeply appreciated and set a strong, positive tone for the event.
We are also immensely grateful to the Wallace Global Fund for their unwavering support for the commencement of the Blue Communities initiative in Africa and whose contributions have been vital in bringing this vision to life on our continent.
Additionally, we would like to extend our thanks to the Blue Planet Project and the Global Blue Communities Network for initiating this transformative movement. Their continuous support and guidance have been pivotal in realizing the Blue Communities initiative in Africa, and we look forward to continuing collaborating with them and with all supporters in the rollout of the Blue Communities Africa work in the days ahead.
